Chronic Invisible Illness: Healing Through Acceptance

Dealing with chronic invisible illness is a long and slow journey, but even when healing isn’t possible, wellness, joy, peace and tranquility always are.

Chronic Invisible Illness: Healing Through Acceptance

The chronic illness world is a universe on its own. Itโ€™s complicated. Itโ€™s filled with anguish, pain, disdain, sorrow, helplessness and numerous traumatizing, toxic and dismissive doctors as the cherry on the top. It’s a world that is unbearable and unbelievable to share. Someone on the outside might find the experiences you share as unbelievable, perhaps even as unbelievable as a first contact story with an alien. Yes I know, it might sound outrageous, but if you’ve experienced the world of chronic illness, you know very well what Iโ€™m talking about.

Why this support group?

It’s a space created for you, me and 4 other chronic illness warriors who experience this unexplainable universe. It’s a space where you no longer need to explain yourself, and simply get to express yourself.

Expression is a complicated concept, only when someone understands what you are going through, are you able to affect change in them and in you, without having to explain yourself.

This is the space where you get to talk about the things you experience within your body, within those hospital walls, and within the society you live in without feeling like a fake, without feeling like an outsider that needs to fit in, without feeling like a betrayal to yourself and to your life.

This is the space where you come to celebrate you. You as you are now. To celebrate how far you have come and get courage for how far you have to go. To celebrate your gall, your fight, your will and your determination to get as far as you possibly can. This is the space where you get to share in the anguish, pain, disdain, sorrow and helplessness of the chronic illness world, but also get to share in the joy, the laughter, the understanding and the communal healing that comes from joining arms with others who are in your shoes.

Perhaps we may be incurable, or terminal, but there is a solace that comes in sharing a space with a group of women who understand us without needing to speak, who understand us without explanation, who understand us just by seeing the expression on our faces or just by seeing our body language. There is a solace in being understood and sharing the little joys in each other’s lives while helping each other carry our silent experiences.
