Healing the Self While Healing Loved Ones
Taking care of someone with a serious mental illness can be extremely difficult at times. The most important thing to remind yourself is: self care and self-love must come first.
Bipolar & Schizophrenia & Psychosis Caregiver Support Group: Healing the Self While Healing Loved Ones
Taking care and loving a loved one with a severe mental health illness can be extremely painful, heartbreaking and difficult. I have experienced it, lived it and continue to experience it.
Trying to keep your balance while navigating their mood swings, explosive outbursts, aggressive or passive behaviors; belittling, critical, demeaning, cruel comments and outright insults, is heartbreaking and painful. It is extremely difficult to keep level-headed while someone you love deeply and you know loves you deeply is hurting and hurts you so much. Yet you know that they need you and because of how much you love them and how much you know they love you, you hang on to loving them back and taking care of them during their relapse.
It is important to understand what you are going through and what your loved one is going through as well. Being that your task, or the challenge at hand is the mental illness in question, it is extremely important to understand it well and understand how it manifests itself in the person you love.
Bipolar & Schizophrenia & Psychosis Caregiver Support Group
This support group will offer you multiple perspectives from other women with shared experiences of loving loved ones with these mental health illnesses. This group is meant to give you a sense of belonging and community with a small group of women who share this very particular and sometimes rare experience of taking care of a loved one with bipolar, schizophrenia and/or psychosis.
You will get to share your experience of how your loved one is coping and more importantly, how you are coping. We will share amongst ourselves how we take care of our loved ones and how we take care of ourselves during the process. In that sharing, we will learn from each other and take bits of wisdom of how we can better take care of ourselves while taking care of those we love.
